Places and objects
An incomplete guide to some of the places, objects and creatures of the House and Secondary Realms.
The Front Door and Doorstop Hill
The Front Door is in the Atrium of the Lower House, and stands on the crest of a hill. It's an enormous freestanding door of dark-oiled wood, between gateposts of white stone, about 30 feet apart and forty feet high.
Its surface doesn't feel like wood or iron, but has more of the consistency of jelly, When you knock on it, it makes a hollow noise.
It's decorated with wrought-iron climbing vines and curlicues, the patterns and shapes of which are mesmerising and can trap you into staring at them forever.
