Characters - Grim Tuesday
Grim Tuesday is the holder of the Second Key to the Kingdom, the key that he should have handed to the Rightful Heir ten thousand years ago. Tall, thin and strong, the Grim is a powerful man whose mighty greed is threatening the very existence of the house. Grim Tuesday is very skilled at making things from Nothing, and is never seen without his gold-banded gloves of flexible silver metal. He is a ruthless and dangerous enemy.
Soot
Lost for centuries in the dark diggings of the pit, this very big, hairy, sooty slug was once one of Grim Tuesday’s eyebrows. Now Soot is dying to get back inside the Treasure Tower and he can’t do it alone. He strikes a bargain with Arthur and Suzy and together they breach the Tower’s defences, but can the overgrown eyebrow really be trusted?
Captain Tom Shelvocke
Currently the white-haired keeper of the Register of Indentured Workers, Captain Tom is really ‘a mariner, temporarily becalmed by that slave master Grim Tuesday.’ Gruff and courageous, he helps Arthur and Suzy sail to the centre of a sun in search of the next piece of the Will. But, as the brother of the Piper, he is still Grim Tuesday’s servant, and he does wield a nine-foot-long harpoon.
Japeth used to be a Theasurus Minimus Grade Two but now he’s an indentured worker in Grim Tuesday’s Pit. Loyal and kind, he befriends Arthur, offers good advice, is very long winded, and doesn’t snitch, dob, blab or squeal.
